Manufacturing Engineer I, TSCS

Overview

Manufacturing Engineers design, implement, and optimize manufacturing documentation, tooling and processes. They ensure all applied tools and processes are safe, efficient, and cost-effective. When opportunities for improvement arise, they take the initiative to permanently solve them in a timely and profit-minded manner. They use their technical knowledge to support other internal departments in resolving both internal and external inquiries and challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to production, quality, and other internal departments in a timely manner and to Minco's standard of excellence to solve internal challenges.
  • Identify, assess, and carry out continuous improvement projects to permanently solve challenges, ensuring company-wide objectives, such as target lead times or scrap rates, are met.
  • Collaborate with production, internal customers, and other engineers to fully understand and define product and specification requirements, objectives, timelines, and project tasks.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental design engineering and related manufacturing principles and practices while reviewing drawings, assembly instructions, inspection requirements, and other areas as required; recognize problems and identify solutions or recommend appropriate actions.
  • Review and update product-focused documentation to be clear and commonly understood by all employees, ensuring impeccable accuracy, repetition, and safety.
  • Investigate, evaluate, and recommend new processes, materials, and tooling to continually accelerate Minco’s leadership in design and manufacturing solutions, quality, productivity, and innovation.
  • Support the resolution of external inquiries and challenges by responding to questions and concerns from Quality, Purchasing, and Customer Service departments in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as identified.

  • Ability to design tooling; familiar with various fabrication processes including 3D modeling.
  • Ability to design text fixtures for electronics manufacturing; familiar with circuitry design, I/O components, and microcontroller programming.
  • Ability to write computer programs at an intermediate level to automate and improve processes. Preferred languages: VBA or Visual Basic, Python, LabVIEW, JavaScript.
  • Understanding of fundamental design engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience with SolidWorks.
  • Experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and other applicable applications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 3-month engineering internship, ideally in a similar role at a business-to-business manufacturing company with diverse product and service solutions, within AS9100 or ISO9001 systems.
  • Experience collaborating with other engineers within the company to solve internal and external issues.
  • Experience optimizing manufacturing processes, including development of tooling and/or product specific automation, and continuation engineering.
  • Experience writing work instructions for a manufacturing environment, including for English as a Second Language (ESL) assemblers.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including but not limited to electronics manufacturing, light assembly, machining and fabrication processes, etching, plating, resistance welding, soldering, wire processing, lamination.
  • Experience working in manufacturing environments requiring Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention and working within either AS9100 or ISO9001 based quality systems.
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements such as REACH/RoHS/Conflict Minerals.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Materials Engineering.

Work Environment:

  • General office, engineering and production floor, and manufacturing environments.
  • Domestic and/or International Travel might be ten percent or more, as needed.
