Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and related design duties for the Thermal Solutions product line through the application of fundamental product engineering principles, thorough risk and manufacturing assessments, and thermal or mechanical analysis as needed to ensure the safe application of Minco products.

  • Work on complex projects individually and lead teams to solve customer problems and meet customer requirements.
  • Lead technical and design support teams to document, design, set up and build new parts for customers.
  • Meet with technicians, internal and external customers, or other engineers to understand product and specification requirements, objectives, timelines, and project tasks and to coordinate communications within the plant and the customer.
  • Participate in design, process, and continuous improvement projects that impact product segments; ensure objectives and timelines are met, and meet with engineering or production staff as required to complete projects
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team to ensure products meet or exceed profit and quality objectives and prepare new designs for seamless introduction into serial production.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from technicians, customers, and suppliers; investigate design, quality, pricing, and other problems; communicate with sales and provide training to the appropriate groups.
  • Provide quote materials to the sales team that they can use to develop customer pricing strategies.
  • Prepare professional presentations, project proposals, sketches, and rough concepts to external customers via documentation and face-to-face interaction for the purposes of communicating design ideas and modifications.
  • Build engineering relationships with customers and support sales and marketing efforts in pursuing new opportunities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical discipline
  • Five plus years of design experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Five plus years of experience working and designing directly with external customers
  • Five plus years of experience with 3D CAD software
  • Willingness to travel (domestic and/or International Travel up to twenty percent, as needed).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with flex circuit or flexible heater design and manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of fundamental design or application engineering principles and practices
  • Strong working knowledge of designing in Solidworks (Advanced Part Modeling, Assemblies, Drawings, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Visio, Project, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with programming in .NET, C#, or Python
  • Experience automating MS Word/Excel using VBA
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturability
  • Strong working knowledge of DOE and Capability Study
  • Strong graphics/visual aide creation skills
  • Proficient with Minitab
  • Understanding and practical application of FMEA
  • Understanding of metal fabrication (Machining, Casting, Sheet Metal, Welding, etc.)
  • Experience with lean principles and six sigma tools
  • New product introduction experience
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Familiar with AS9100 and ISO9001 requirements, a plus.

This position is a regular full-time position located in our headquarters in Fridley, Minnesota.
