Purchasing Supervisor

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Supervisor to build, lead, and develop the Purchasing team and will help build procurement solutions for business needs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, directing, and coordinating all purchasing activities, negotiating and enforcing organization's commercial and legal contract terms and conditions. Developing and maintaining relationships with key vendors/suppliers, contributing to our organization's enterprise-wide purchasing efforts, identifying opportunities for cost reduction, and coordinating operating departments on cost savings and improved processes.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of purchasing professionals by hiring, training, evaluating, and managing performance, develop and empower your team, providing compensation recommendations and offering other rewards and recognition that will help you develop a team of high performers.
  • Develop, analyze, and review status and team performance reporting. Assign commodity responsibilities and implement improvement strategies.
  • Evaluate price, commodity, and/or market trends to identify risks or opportunities.
  • Partner with internal and external customers to understand project needs and timelines.
  • Manage high-profile or high-risk suppliers and escalate and mitigate risks providing recommendations to leadership and/or colleagues.
  • Perform standard purchasing processes for complex or highly sensitive suppliers and/or products.
  • Review and maintain accurate work instructions and operational support documents.
  • Create, maintain, and support a continuous improvement (CI) culture.  Partner with employees to identify and implement CI activities to support company strategies using CI principles and tools (Lean, Standard Work, Six Sigma, problem solving, innovation, etc.).

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of post-high school education
  • 5+ years of experience within a manufacturing environment using an ERP system
  • 1+ years of experience in a supply chain discipline outside purchasing
  • 1+ years of experience leading teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of educational course work through ASCM (Association for Supply Chain Management – Formerly APICS)
  • Provide formalized coaching

This position is a regular full-time position located in our headquarters in Fridley, Minnesota which is available only to current members of the Purchasing Department. It is not an addition to headcount.
