Minco has an outstanding opportunity for you to join our Engineering Department as a full-time Design Engineer in the Sensors and Instrumentation product families. In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of our customer and product requirements, participating (and then leading) design teams in the development of new and existing products.


You'll work closely with our customers, engineering and production. What you do will have an important impact on the company and our customers.  Every day, you will be responsible for delighting the customer, practicing continuous improvement and operating within our company’s “icare” values while growing and developing in your role.


Position responsibilities:


  • Develop embedded systems utilizing 8,16, and 32 bit microcontrollers
  • Create electrical schematics and oversee/review PCB layouts
  • Develop embedded system firmware in C
  • Create design documentation including BOMs, assembly instructions, schematics, drawings, design specifications, validation and verification plans and reports
  • Implement USB, RS232, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and other communication interfaces
  • Perform debugging and validation testing of hardware and firmware functionality
  • Perform and manage regulatory requirements including UL, FM, IEC, EMC, etc.
  • Participate in design, process, and continuous improvement projects that impact instrumentation; ensure objectives and timelines are met
  • Develop and review a variety of reports, documents, and tests, and adjust operations or activities as needed.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from production technicians, customers and suppliers; investigate design, quality, pricing, and other issues; communicate with sales and/or provide training
  • Interpret and apply department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations; ensure compliance with these areas
  • Assist with mentoring and training engineers in design procedures, design and customer history, technology and material function, processes, and interdepartmental contacts
  • May serve as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work and providing direction



Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in embedded software/firmware development  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience programming in C/C++ for interrupt driven designs and real-time applications
  • Experience with 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontrollers.  PIC microcontrollers a plus
  • Experience interfacing sensors, keypads, and LED/LCD displays to microcontrollers
  • Experience with agency regulations, such as UL and CE
  • Ability to carry a design task from concept to implementation
  • Ability to create engineering requirements, test plans, and test for product conformance
  • Ability to troubleshoot code and hardware
  • Mechanical Design experience a plus
  • Knowledge of PID control, isolation techniques, low power electronics, wireless implementation, filter design, and power supply design
  • Experience writing software using VB.net, VB
  • Understanding of basic project management principles
  • Understanding of fundamental competitors, product segments, and suppliers is preferred
  • Excellent computer skills; Familiarity with Altium, PCAD, MPLAB, Visual Studio, Subversion, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project)

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment


This position is a regular full-time position located in our headquarters in Fridley, Minnesota.
